Polmadie Down Holding Sidings, Glasgow

Client Alstom
Value £850,000
Location Glasgow

Requirements

Acting as principal contractor, Covanburn were responsible for the design and build of a new train servicing facility for Alstom at their Polmadie Depot in Glasgow.

Approach

The works were carried out in an existing sidings area adjacent to the West Coast Main Line leading into Glasgow.

Key items were:

  • Construction on new walkways between existing sidings
  • Construction of new pump house and foul outlet to sewer
  • Installation of new train servicing points.
  • Installation of new lighting
  • Provision of new power supply for equipment.
  • Construction of new surfaced access road

Prior to works commencing on site, Covanburn engaged specialist subcontractors to provide the necessary mechanical and electrical equipment required for the servicing of the trains.

From their information, a civils designer prepared drawings and layouts for all the services. A full design package was then submitted to the client for approval prior to construction starting.

Once on site, our team constructed all of the civils elements whilst remaining in liaison with the specialist contractors. Covanburn then managed all of the specialist elements to ensure that each element was delivered on time in the correct sequence.

At the end of the project, we submitted full health and safety files and operation and maintenance manuals to the client.
