Covanburn Timeline

2004 - Covanburn Contracts Limited

Covanburn Contracts Limited established in March 2004 by Alex Stewart (Managing Director).

The name inspiration came from the Covan Burn which can be found in Hamilton.

2004 - Building Our Team

First employees – Alex, Wendy, Bradley, Robert Muir, Tom Boyd, Davie Orr, Bob Docherty

2004 - Life in the Early Days

Life in the early days was slightly different as the small team worked out of the office at Coatbridge Business Centre and during that period, the office based staff were Alex, Wendy and Bradley.

The site based staff of engineers and supervisors were Robert Muir, Tom Boyd, Davie Orr and Bob Docherty. These guys had hot desks because it was such a small office space.

2005 - New Director

Kenny Millin joins the Covanburn team as Director and manages the Rail side of the business

2005 - First Job for the Railway

One of the first jobs Covanburn carried out for Network Rail was erecting a plaque at Haymarket Station. The plaque was in memory of John Miller, an Engineer for most of the early main line railways in Scotland, including the North British, the first line across the border, and the Edinburgh and Glasgow, the first inter-city line, for which Haymarket Station was the Edinburgh terminus from 1842-46.

The plaque was presented by the institution of Civil Engineers and dedicated on 26 July 2005, the Bicentenary of Miller’s birth.

2008 - A move is on the horizon

As the Covanburn team expanded to 20 employees, a new office was needed, so operations were moved to Hamilton – across from a brilliant cake shop – and so the waistlines expanded!

2010 - First Framework

Covanburn gets on its first Glasgow City Council Framework

2013 - Principal Contractor License

2016 - Sees more moves afoot

As Covanburn expands and now employs 60 staff, another new office was needed.

The move to East Kilbride allowed the company to take on more restoration work as a result of the larger yard and warehouse space.

2019 - Annual Football Tournament Resurrected

The Annual Football Tournament has been resurrected between the Rail, Civils and Office Team – it’s rumoured that a Golf Tournament may be started – I’d put my money on the office team winning this one thanks to Kenny!
