Doff & Torc Stone Cleaning

Doff is a gentle form of steam cleaning, often used to clean stone and effective at removing paint, staining and discolouration. Torc cleaning is an even gentler cleaning process – it creates a swirling vortex using a mixture of low air pressure, water and an inert granulate.

Both products are supplied by Stonehealth Ltd – a UK based company concerned with the supply of products and consultancy work in relation to sensitive stonework restoration and conservation. In 2022, Covanburn became an approved contractor for both the Doff and Torc cleaning systems.

The systems are hugely effective at restoring sensitive stone structures and facades with 0% surface damage, and help to complement our ongoing masonry and heritage conservation work.

Doff Cleaning System

What is Doff cleaning?

Doff is a stone cleaning system designed to effectively remove substances such as paint, algae, graffiti, grime and dirt without causing harm to the substrate. It uses high-pressure steam to clean stonework and masonry.

What are the benefits of using the Doff system?

A cleaning method that’s either too abrasive or high pressure can chip away and/or damage the facade of buildings, many of which are hundreds of years old and important parts of their local environment and community. Doff is the perfect alternative.

Torc Cleaning System

What is Torc cleaning?

Torc is a stone cleaning system used to restore stonework and building facades quickly and effectively, providing a natural and clean looking finish. It is particularly effective at removing carbon sulphation, brittle paints and limescale.

What are the benefits of using the Torc system?

The system is ideal for cleaning historical and heritage buildings, particularly older stone structures. Again it’s far less obtrusive and damaging on the substrate than more traditional methods.
