Historic Fountains & Ornamental Water Feature Restoration

At Covanburn we offer a highly specialised service in historic fountain and heritage water feature restoration.

Ornamental fountains and water features are often integral to the identity of public and urban areas such as parks and squares, creating a powerful visual impact. They are important community landmarks and they matter to the people who live there. Historic fountains and water features are enjoyed and admired by locals and visitors in the present day, but they are also important historical civic monuments and examples of fascinating design.

Poorly maintained, however, a fountain or water feature can be a health and safety hazard as well as an eyesore. In bad condition, they can dent a community’s sense of pride in its surroundings. Covanburn aims, where possible, to maintain and protect all the historic features of fountains and we offer a full refurbishment service for all types of water features across the UK.

Dof and Torc Stone Cleaning for Fountains and Water Features

Covanburn is also an approved contractor for Doff and Torc stone cleaning systems, meaning we can deliver significant aesthetic improvements to fountains by using specialist gentle forms of cleaning. Doff and Torc cleaning uses steam, air pressure, water and inert granulate to remove staining and discolouration. It is hugely effective in providing thorough cleaning and improvement with 0% surface damage.

Challenges of Fountain Restoration and Repair

Given the historical nature of many fountains, they reflect the design and construction techniques used in different times. This can make fountain restoration challenging. At Covanburn we have developed a particularly niche expertise in understanding how to incorporate modern design into these historical structures both to strengthen and restore them in the present day, but also to ensure their future structural integrity.
