Culvert Renewals Between Arrochar and Ardlui

Client Network Rail
Value £1.2m
Location Argyll and Bute

Requirements

The overall project included a total of 10 existing culverts which were principally located on the line between Arrochar and Crainlarich, and 1 located near Shotts.

Each culvert had been assessed as requiring replacement or renewal of the existing pipe.

Approach

Key items included:

  • Installation on new UTX’s at 10no. culverts
  • Provision of Handback Engineer
  • Track monitoring following installation of new UTX
  • Construction of new inlet and outlet headwalls.
  • Grouting of redundant UTX pipes.

The works were designed in such a way that the headwalls were within the track support zone, so all works would have to be carried out during a possession. Covanburn worked with the designer to modify the design by extending the length of the culvert, moving the headwalls outwith the track support zone therefore allowing the works to be carried out during normal day shift and without possession.

Result

As a result of the collaboration with the designer, a significant amount of the work was able to be carried out without the need for possession meaning the works were completed and handed back earlier than originally anticipated.

£1.2m

Covanburn worked successfully with the designer to provide value engineering.
