Covid Memorial Space unveiled at Strathclyde Country Park

Covanburn Contracts is proud to announce the completion of a new community gathering space at Strathclyde Country Park, created as part of the national Remembering Together project.

Commissioned by North Lanarkshire Council, this high-profile project was part of the Scottish Government’s Remembering Together Covid Memorial programme. The initiative aims to provide a lasting legacy for the people of North Lanarkshire, commemorating the challenges and losses faced during the Covid pandemic while celebrating the resilience, connections, and progress forged in its wake.

The collaborative design process involved 200 local people working alongside artists to design a space that honours collective memories and experiences. The result is a reflective environment featuring thoughtfully designed seating, trees, plants, and bespoke artwork that symbolises the journey of communities before, during, and after the pandemic.

“During the design process, people said that one of the things they missed most during lockdown was meeting friends and family, so this new feature provides a restful, positive place surrounded by greenspace and with a lovely view over the loch,” Councillor Helen Loughran, Convener of the Environment and Climate Change Committee said.

“It is fitting that North Lanarkshire’s Covid memorial is located at Strathclyde Country Park, which was used by many people for their daily exercise during the lockdowns and then to meet family and friends outdoors as restrictions eased.”
