In this project we combined two things we love – restoration and regeneration – when we were appointed to carry out a range of works at Levengrove Park after West Dunbartonshire Council’s Greenspace section won a Heritage Lottery Fund bid to restore the heritage of the park under Parks for People.
The upgrades to the park have been a huge benefit to local residents, allowing them access to guided walks, horticultural workshops, sports days and concerts among a range of activities they can take part in. a post-project evaluation revealed that 94% of visitors agreed the park enhanced their quality of life and 91% agreed that the park was important for their health and wellbeing.
The regeneration of the park included the construction of a new pavilion building with café and rangers office, the upgrading of an existing council depot facility, upgrading of the paths, landscaping, and restoration of stonework and gates.
Upgraded power and gas supplies were needed, which we coordinated to tie in with the overall construction plan. New sewer connections were also required so we installed a new rising main sewer, which connected to the existing Scottish Water Sewer.
The works included:
The heritage restoration works at St Serf’s Church, Shiers Well and Kilmahew Fountain and Cenotaph. It’s quite special to see historical structures sit aside new installations, as though we’re watching the past and the present gel together in real time.
I can confirm that Covanburn carried out all the works to a high standard and we are very pleased with the completed works.
