The 60 Steps are more than 150 years old and can be found in the west end of Glasgow. Designed by Glasgow architect Alexander “Greek” Thomson, they’re said to be one of his last works. The Category B listed 60 Steps feature a grand retaining wall curving around and above the steps and a severe bulge was discovered at the base.
An investigation commissioned by Glasgow City Council discovered that voids in the wall construction and poor road drainage had contributed to material loss.
The Council required us to carry out stabilisation works on the structure and, crucially, ensure there was no further damage to the wall or surrounding properties while works were ongoing.

The history. It really is that simple. To think this was one of the last works of Alexander “Greek” Thomson gives the work important historical context and it was exciting to be involved in the preservation of such a culturally valuable structure.
