100 Years of Stanley Park
Bringing the Fountain Back to Life
This year, Stanley Park in Blackpool celebrates its 100-year anniversary and we’re honoured to be part of the celebration.
As part of the centenary celebrations, Blackpool Council has commissioned the restoration of the park’s stunning Italian marble fountain — the centrepiece of the park — and we are delighted to have been appointed to take this project on. Specialist skills and knowledge are needed in order to restore the original features of these amazing monuments, and we absolutely love this work.
We sent a team to Blackpool last week, headed up by our Managing Director Alex Stewart, to get started — and they’ve already come back to Scotland… with four seahorses in tow! These sprouting seahorse statues adorn the fountain in the pond, and we need them here in our workshop so we can carry out some intricate and detailed restoration work before we return them to their rightful place.
Our team very carefully prepared them for removal and conducted some other preliminary work on the site. While we’ll work on the seahorses in Scotland, we’ll be working on the fountain itself on-site.
It was in the centre of Stanley Park, in the presence of the grand fountain, that the 17th Earl of Derby Edward Stanley delivered a key speech after officially opening the park with the turn of a golden key in the gate in 1926. In that speech, he noted how the creation of the park — aimed at accommodating the growing population and providing recreational space — was a mark of progress for Blackpool.
