Relay Rooms Refurbishments

A relay room is a line-side building that contains signalling control equipment and welfare facilities. A large part of the relay room houses electrical signalling equipment and if this room was non operational for whatever reason, the signalling would be affected and no trains would run along Scotland’s Central Belt.

Covanburn have worked on 16 relay rooms located throughout central Scotland that were in need of refurbishment, including Edinburgh Haymarket, through our building framework.

Works involved in renewing line-side relay rooms included the following:

  • Renewal of bathroom suites
  • Renewal of kitchens
  • Repainting of all internal walls, ceilings, doors and skirtings
  • Deep cleaning any existing wall tiles
  • Renewal of existing flooring with lino
  • Renewal of internal lighting with LED, with passive infrared (PIR) sensors
  • Installation of vandal proof security light with PIR detection above all exits / entrance ways
  • Renewal of entrance doors to some Relay Rooms with steel door, frame and associated ironmongery from TECHNORAIL
  • Removal of all vegetation and debris from general area around building perimeter and remove off site
  • Clearing out guttering and downpipes
  • Rake out and repoint existing brick mortar if loose
  • Installation of standard signage on front and rear entrance gates of building.

Canopy Works

As part of the rail works projects we carry out, Covanburn have undertaken projects involving the refurbishment and repainting of station canopies, in accordance with Transport Scotland branding guidelines.

Works involved in a canopy refurbishment might include:

  • Removal of existing wired glass glazing
