Covanburn Contracts Ltd were appointed as Principal Contractors by Glasgow City Council to carry out surface water management and flood prevention works on the Hillington and Cardonald SWMP contract awarded under the Construction & Trades Framework GCC004481CPU [Lot Number 16]. The works aimed to manage surface water through sustainable processes, to reduce combined sewer flooding, and to facilitate the development of areas through provision of surface water infrastructure. The main construction works comprised of excavating and forming 3no. offline attenuation basins and constructing all interconnecting manholes, outfall connection, underground drainage, bentonite lining to basins, formation of swales and perimeter bunds, new access footways and soft and hard landscaping.

Project Outcomes

The main construction works were successfully delivered in February 2023 with only some soft landscaping works outstanding due to seasonal constraints. Operatives who were employed as part of the projects community benefit agreement have been retained for use on other projects and are being trained in line with Covanburn CPD programme which includes CPCS plant training and NVQ level 2 and 3 accreditation. The space will now provide a public park area for use by the residents.
