The charity, Forth Environmental Link, were looking to launch Scotland’s largest electric bike hire scheme, Forth Bike, in Forth Valley. This cross regional 120 e-bike scheme will be Scotland’s largest e-bike hire scheme connecting three Council areas: Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire.

The iniative is funded by Transport Scotland, NHS Forth Valley, SESTRAN, Clackmannanshire Council, Stirlilng Council and Falkirk Council and includes 12 bike hire charging stations at:

Clarkmannanshire: Alloa Train Station; Tillicoultry, Eliston Drive; Dollar Civic Centre

Falkirk: The Falkirk Wheel; Helix Park / The Kelpies; High Street, Stenhousemuir

Stirling: Stirling University; Stirling Hospital (NHS Care Village);

Approach

Covanburn were required to carry out the groundworks, install the necessary ducting and the concreting of the base slab. The extent of the works varied at each of the locations and we reinstated the various groundworks around the sites which included tarmac, granite paving and turfed areas.

Some of the sites involved working at railway stations for which we negotiated with Scotrail with regards access to the station. Other sites included Stirling Hospital which required us to provide access at all times to emergency vehicles and patients.

Result

The initiative supports climate ambition, improves air quality and benefits the health and well being of the bike users.
