Bonaly Culvert Replacement

Client Edinburgh City Council
Value £16,300
Location Edinburgh

Description

The site for the works was an existing twin culvert pipes which carried the Dean Burn under Bonaly Road directly to the entrance to the busy Bonaly Outdoor Centre.

Motor and pedestrian access to the Outdoor Centre car park had to remain open for the duration of the works therefore directional signage and barriers were crucial to ensure public safety during the works.

The works involved temporary closure of the access road to Bonaly Car Park which is popular with hillwalkers, dogwalkers etc.

Requirements

The works comprised the excavation and removal of the existing twin 300mm diameter pipe culvert below the surfaced single-track access which forms Bonaly Road and replacement with a wider single culvert.

The culvert was formed of precast concrete sections to include full reinstatement to the road features and surfacing local to the repair. This also included reinstatement of the natural surroundings.

Result

The works were carried out safely, on time and to the specification required.
