Requirements

The works at Almondvale Park were to improve the overall appearance of the area.

This involved removal of the existing hard and soft landscaping, and then installing new. The works were carried out throughout the entire park, but centred on 4no. existing picnic areas within the park area. 

The park remained open throughout the period of the project, so works had to be phased to maintain as much access for the public as possible. Working areas were fully fenced off to protect the public and all plant movements were controlled by a banksman.

Approach

We were aware of the need for their to be as little disruption as possible to park users whilst the work was being carried out.

The landscaping work involved on this project was significant, and included the following:

Hard Landscaping: 

  • Site preparation
  • Installation of asphalt, kerbs, edgings
  • Natural stone setts
  • Natural stone slab paving
  • Tactile paving

Soft Landscaping

  • Tree works
  • Vegetation clearance
  • Planting bed preparation
  • Soil amelioration
  • Herbicide treatments
  • Cultivation
  • Seeding
  • Planting of shrubs, trees and perennial climbers, hedges
  • Maintenance of soft landscaping elements to ensure their establishment
  • Carrying out de-vegetation works including removal of mature trees, existing thickets and ornamental shrubs.
  • Substantial thinning of existing trees and woodland.
  • Planting of approximately 22no EHS trees (14-18cm, rootballed)
  • Planting of thicket (450 – 600mm high transplants cw tree shelter)
  • Shrub planting (450 – 600mm high)

Wildflora including Hedgerow, Annual Flower, Native Meadow and Perennial Mixes.
